Final Treatment “Love Her and Leave"
“Love Her and Leave”
Introduction
This is a music video of a typical heartbroken R‘n’B song however with a twist, the singer isn’t the broken hearted girl, she tells the story of another. We will portray this through the narrative of our music video.
The narrative will be shown in black and white to signify what happened in the past between these two people in the relationship and why they broke up. We believe this is quite significant because when black and white is used in pictures or videos is has connotations of the past, especially as around the 1920s-30s films were shown in black and white (even though our video isn’t about that far back in history).
There will be straight cuts to the singer miming the song solo and dancing in an un-choreographed manner (in colour). There will be two different locations for these solo scenes, one will be in a high angle long shot of the singer, and she will be on top of a roof overlooking the city of London. We feel this will reinforce the singers British background as well as conform to mainstream R’N’B conventions of filming in iconic cities or areas (e.g. New York). The other will be a low angle straight cut to close ups and mid shots of the singer against a plain white or black background in a studio. There will be two different rather revealing outfits for these shots which will represent the glamour of the singer’s life as well as her sex appeal.
Verse 1
We begin with a close up of a glass of water on a table with an out of focus view of the bedroom in the background as the non-diegetic soundtrack of the song starts with the lines:
It’s clear, like water in a glass,
The camera tracks the glass of water as the actress brings the glass to her lips and takes a sip of the water. The girl will be wearing lipstick or lip gloss and there will be a extreme close up of the lips as she licks her lips. This enhances the videos sex appeal by using sexual connotation by the licking of the lips.
I feel like I'm in it how long will it last,
The actress puts down the glass of water however the camera stays as a mid close up in a low angle looking up at the girl doing her make-up. The actress fixes up her tight short dress and by doing this it will attract the attention of her curvacious healthy figure. This would not only create sex appeal once again but show girls who would see this that this is as the healthy and most socially acceptable and attractive body a woman should have. There is an immediate straight cut to the singer dancing un-choreographed as she mimes the diegetic soundtrack.
Until, completely vanished cos you got the wrong signs from the guy poor guy, Its misunderstood why
There will be a montage of low angle mid long shots to highlight the singer’s empowerment and her high status. Also there will be close ups of her expressions of hurt to emphasise the sadness of the song. The singer will be against a white background, she will be wearing black leggings, heels and a top with the union jack on it. The top will be revealing and alot of her stomach and cleavage will be visible. During the mid-long shots her cleavage and stomach will be in the centre point of the shot therefore drawing attention to them even more, this will follow the male gaze theory of Laura Mulvey.
a lot of you are in need of love just hold on to what you've got instead of hurting, Now she's wondering
There will be a long shot of the girl and her friends all dressed in heels and fashionable clothes. They are walking down the road together and laughing. The camera tilts down as they walk starting from their heads and ending on their legs in heels. It then tilts up again imitating a sexual appraisal of the girls by a male viewer. This will obviously engage the male audience.
Verse 2
The girl walks in a cafe with her friends giggling and having fun, when they enter there will be a Point Of View shot where the boyfriend will be in focus (mid shot low angle) holding another girls hand over the table and there will be a change of focus to a long shot of the group of friends entering the cafe. The boyfriend will be holding a white girls hand and stroking her face, he will be wearing black because black has connotations of evil and darkness and the girl would be wearing or would have an accessory that is red to connote danger. This will warn the audience there is danger to expect because the antagonist (the boyfriend) has done something to hurt the protagonist. The red also connotates passion between the two as they are having an affair.
After all she's been through why would you love her and leave
After you say you wear the trousers in the relationship but you love her and leave
When promises are broken and words that are spoken are ignored
Again, there will montage of low angle, mid long shots to highlight the singer’s empowerment and her high status. Also there will be close ups of her expressions of hurt to emphasise the sadness of the song. The singer will be wearing a raincoat and heels to give the video an air of mystery and sophistication.
You just try to block it out
But it saves the pain its saves the pain
The girl looks at her boyfriend there will be a high angle mid close up and shot reverse shot at which point the music will stop completely and there will be a heartbeat sound effect to emphasise the tense emotions being felt, as the girl discovers she is being cheated on and the boy gets caught.
HEARTBEAT, NON-DIEGETIC, NON-SYNCHRONISED
Verse 3
Montage of low angle, mid long shots to highlight the singer’s empowerment and her high status. Also there will be close ups of her expressions of hurt to emphasise the sadness of the song. This will be a mixture of the plain white background scene and the rooftop with the raincoat on scene.
She's done so much for you but you won't ever understand cos your so wrapped up into yourself
Why can't you appreciate the things she's done for you
She's there for you when you need her but you don't treat her like she's worth it
Forgive yourself for the things you've put her through.
Long shot of the girl running out of the café crying, she wil be trying to wipe her tears away very fast.
After all she's been through why would you love her and leave
After you say you wear the trousers in the relationship but you love her and leave
When promises are broken and words that are spoken are ignored
Close ups and mid long shots of the girl crying on a bench in the barbican area of London, which dissolves into a high angle shot of the girl laying on her bed with a white shirt on and black lingerie with makeup smudged down her face. Jump cuts will be used to show the passing of time. Tissues will surround her on the bed to signify her sadness. She sits up on the bed holding her head looking down on the floor.
She's done so much for you but you won't ever understand cos your so wrapped up into yourself
Why can't you appreciate the things she's done for you.
Graphic match with the boy sitting on the bench in the same way, holding his head in his hands, looking at the floor shaking his head.
She's there for you when you need her but you don't treat her like she's worth it
Forgive yourself for the things you've put her through.
Back to the montage of the singer as she sings the last bit of the song
After all she's been through why would you love her and leave
After you say you wear the trousers in the relationship but you love her and leave
When promises are broken and words that are spoken are ignored
Harmony bridge
After all she's been through why would you love her and leave
After you say you wear the trousers in the relationship but you love her and leave
When promises are broken and words that are spoken are ignored
The shot will end with a close up of the singer looking down then up seductively at the camera and the shot will fade to black.
